Ambridge World Cup
by Mr Snowy
As the World Cup reaches its climax, Mr Snowy used the Fantasy Archers topic of to point out the similarities between certain Ambridge residents and footballing nations.
Jack Woolley: Brazil. Still fabulously rich (in footballing talent) but, for this World Cup at least, too old and never really with the plot.
Shula: Switzerland. Usually pictured as driven snow. Immaculate defence but without any sense of adventure. Guaranteed to squeeze the life out of any game.
Tom Archer: Spain. Flashy, talks a good game but perpetual underachiever.
Debbie Aldridge: Australia. Too successful at whatever they do, without any apparent effort. So, despite what we might say in public, don't we rejoice whenever they fail.
Clive Horrobin: Iran. Never at the match, really.
Lynda Snell: Japan. Works really hard to copy what the top teams do and has achieved a lot. For all that, everyone remains aware that it is still a copy. Often seen as a figure of fun for even trying and hasn't really been allowed to join the top table. Not that this stops the others from taking advantage of their practicality.
Brian Aldridge: Germany. Heady mix of technique, pace and power. An Audi; excellent but lacking the sheer class of its forerunners.
Matt Crawford: Argentina. A later and currently much sharper version of Woolley/Brazil. But with a darker side.
Brenda Tucker: Ghana. One for the future perhaps but, for the present, big-hearted but naïve.
Oliver Sterling: France. Effortless grace and class based on a rich heritage and total conviction about one's place in the world. But perhaps just a tad too old still to pull it off at the very highest level.
Caroline Sterling: Italy. Much like France but comes with a hint of scandal.
Mike Tucker and Neil Carter: Mexico and Ecuador. Always available for tractor work.
Will: Ukraine. Boring, boring, boring despite having one big gun.
Kenton: Ivory Coast. Everyone is always happy to see them and they always look promising but ultimately there is little positive action from them.
Siobhan: Tunisia. Very exotic and mysterious but soon on their way
Lilian: Portugal. Falls over rather too easily but you wouldn't want to go against her in a penalty shoot-out
