Wendy the peacemaker
Friday 27 July 2001
The Archers message board is a stand-alone forum for Archers listeners to discuss the programme. One regular contributor who notched up over 1000 messages on the board was Wendy Bramley
Wendy Bramley (left) of Leeds has been listening to The Archers since Nelson's daughter Rosemary turned up out of the blue, but has only been using the message board since May 2001.
'The minute I found it, I was straight in', she said. 'I only have one friend who listens to The Archers, so it's great to have all these people you can talk to about the programme.'
Wendy, dubbed 'The Peacemaker' by fellow message board user Mary
Sanderson, works as a playground supervisor and in a nursing home -
often on night shifts, which explains the widely varying times attached
to her messages.
She's funny, generous with compliments, warm-hearted and an all round good egg', says Mary.
Another message board stalwart, Tessa Ing,
describes her mental picture of Wendy: 'rushing round feeding chinchillas
and husbands* and small children and old people with luscious home-made
cakes and yoghurt, keeping her end up in all the discussions, welcoming
all newcomers, soothing all bruised feelings and never getting any sleep'.
*Wendy insists she only has one husband (known on the board
as 'Mr B'), whom we thank for the photograph above.
