Programme 2: Physiology

This series gets inside the finest sporting bodies and minds and uncovers what exactly is going on to make them work so effectively. It reveals how science is being used to improve performance at the very highest level.

Sue Nelson presents the series, with contributions from Olympic gold medalists Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell, Dr. Stephanie Cook, Haile Gebreselassie. British cycling performance director Dr. Peter Keen, chief physiologist at the British Olympic Association medical testing centre Steve Ingham and Professor Bengt Saltin of the University of Copenhagen.

2. Physiology - In the second programme of the series Sue Nelson looks at the physiological make up of great athletes and discovers how science can improve these qualities. She uncovers how maximum power and endurance are achieved through training and how the body can be trained to be versatile for different events. She also looks at the influence of genetics and how they will become even more important in the future.
