Friday 7th July

They think it's all over.....

David Beckham wanted it, the Brazilians had it but it's Manel who's now got it. If you believed in Sven's men, you might have dreamed of the World Cup being paraded in Trafalgar Square but last night it was paraded in my front room. Yes, I went to Germany to report on the World Cup and I brought it home with me.听

In fact, they made thousands of them (replica World Cups). It's just four inches tall but it means there's going to be a little bit of the World Cup in the Today Programme office for ever more (or at least until it gets buried under a pile of newspapers!).

As you know, there's also always going to be a bit of the World Cup on my fridge - I did get the magnets into the UK. And every time I go to get some milk or a can of beer I'll be reminded of Germany 2006 . I don't want to get sentimental but it has been a super tournament. There were some problems of course, like the persistent difficulties with the way tickets are distributed and I still haven't forgotten about my bottle of water. I'm sure it's been said hundreds of times already how well organised it was but, with a competition like this, that should go without saying. What impressed me most was the way it was embraced by so many people around the country and by all the visitors. I really enjoyed it and hopefully that came across in my diary - thanks for reading it. I also tried to look at some of the stories not being covered elsewhere and hopefully you enjoyed listening to my reports on the Today Programme .

Whatever happens on Sunday, at least one round will be on me - apparently everyone's a winner in PM's sweepstake. If Italy win, I win 拢20 and if Italy lose, I still win 拢8!

As you will have seen over the last 25 days, I took loads of photographs but I'll leave you with my some of my favourites.
