Mental health in the armed forces

Figures published by the MOD show that women serving in the armed forces are twice as likely to be treated for mental health issues as men. While this remains a tiny proportion - just 7 women in every 1000 - it comes at a time when the MOD is reviewing the ban on women serving in close combat roles on the ground. Jenni speaks to Elaine, a former soldier who served in Northern Ireland and who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. She is also joined by Professor Simon Wessely, director of the Centre for Military Health at King's College who works closely with the government, to discuss mental health and gender in the armed forces and the ongoing review.
