Birmingham music teacher Clare Morrall has been writing novels for 20 years but not one of them saw the light of day until a small publisher in Birmingham decided to take a chance on her fifth book Astonishing Splashes of Colour
It was a gamble worth taking because despite an initial print run of only 2000, it's now on the shortlist for the Man Booker Prize.
Martha talks to Clare about how it feels to be rated alongside authors like Margaret Atwood and Zoë Heller. Astonishing Splashes of Colour by Clare Morrall, Tindal Street Press, ISBN 0954130324
