Women and buildings: Durham Cathedral 11 Mar 2004
Image: Durham Cathedral
The writer Bill Bryson once wrote that Durham has the best cathedral on planet Earth. It was built to house the remains of two great British saints, Cuthbert and Bede, and it has been a place of pilgrimage for more than 900 years. More recently it was the evocative backdrop for the Harry Potter films.

The responsibility for ensuring the cathedral maintains its reputation for hospitality rests with the Chapter Steward, Anne Heywood. In the first of a series where we explore how important certain buildings become in our lives, Jill Hopkins went to find out more about Anne's rapport with Durham Cathedral.
