Ìý Women of the Year - Andrea Levy 28 DecemberÌý2004 Ìý
Orange Award winner, Andrea Levy
on winningÌýthe Orange Prize

This year Andrea Levy seems to be on an unstoppable ascent, winning the Orange Prize and now on the shortlist for the Whitbread for her novel Small Island.

The book is based on the experience of Andrea’s parents and others like them who came to Britain after the Second World War, only to find the Motherland they fought for is far from welcoming.

The book triumphed over tough competition to win the Orange Prize, beating novels by literary heavyweights such as Margaret Atwood and Rose Tremain.
