House rules

Welcome to Island Blogging's House Rules. These exist so that everyone can get the most out of contributing to the site, and to encourage good online practice that is safe and fun.

Island Blogging reserves the right to change the house rules from time to time by publishing any amendments on site. You are responsible for regularly reviewing the house rules. By submitting a post you confirm your acceptance of any changes.

In order to take part you have to agree to the House Rules.

  1. Island Blogging is open to residents of listed Scottish Islands only and is not accepting new bloggers. For more information, read The next steps for Island Blogging on I.B.H.Q.

  2. You must provide the 大象传媒 with your name and email address if you wish to take part. The 大象传媒 will only ever use your personal details for the purposes of administering this content, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without your permission.

  3. All images sent to the Island Blogging editors are subject to the house rules and the the bbc.co.uk Terms of Use.

  4. By contributing to Island Blogging you agree to grant us the rights set out in the bbc.co.uk Terms of Use. Essentially, these mean that you agree to grant the 大象传媒 a royalty-free, non-exclusive and sublicensable licence to publish and otherwise use the material in any way that we want, and in any media. That means we can reproduce your image however and wherever we want, but it also means that you can as well. You will still own the copyright to everything you contribute. These rights come into effect upon sending the image.

  5. We reserve the right not to publish images that are submitted and to edit the comments that accompany the image. The site editor's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  6. We reserve the right to crop the images as we see fit.

  7. About your blogs. Please keep your contributions civil, tasteful and relevant. We're committed to providing an atmosphere in which constructive and mature dialogue takes place.

  8. No flaming. Unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive, or otherwise objectionable comments are not acceptable.

  9. No swearing. If you do swear, it will appear as ****. If you are quoting it may be acceptable.

  10. No spamming or flooding. Don't post the same comment to more than one conversation or more than once.

  11. No advertising. We can only accept posts that are your own opinion. We will remove posts where we suspect a vested interest.

  12. Spoilers must be clearly marked. Comments that unnecessarily give away the ending of a narrative e.g. film or book. Posts that are not clearly marked at the top will be removed.

  13. No foreign languages. Blogs containing languages other than English, Scots or Gaelic may be removed. Other users should be able to understand your comments and therefore posts with suspected hidden meanings may also be removed.

  14. No impersonation. Adopting an inappropriate user name (one that is vulgar, offensive etc) is also unacceptable.

  15. Be careful with including email addresses and instant messaging numbers, you may receive a lot of unwanted messages. Please do not include anyone else's personal details. We recommend you set up a new email account specifically and post the address in the form "name at bbc.co.uk" to avoid automated spamming. We will remove any postal addresses or telephone numbers unless it is publicly available e.g. a ticket line number or event venue.

  16. Only include suitable URLs in your recommendation. Links to websites we consider unsuitable will be removed. If you are considering including a URL, please make sure that it adds value and interest to the subject of your recommendation. Unsuitable sites would include those with racist material, pornographic or sexually explicit material, potentially defamatory material, anything which encourages illegal activities, material which infringes copyright, sites which purely plug or promote commercial products or services without containing material which enhances the subject matter, or sites which may offend our users.
  17. Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 came into effect on 26 May 2008. It bans the creation of fake blogs, the practice of falsely advertising on social media sites and pretending that a blogger is a consumer when the blogger is not ("seeding," or is being paid to pose as a consumer). The law has changed, so this unethical behaviour is now also illegal. These guidelines are enforced by the and administered by the .
