Mark Beaumont's Diary
Despite adding about 2kg to his overall kit weight, Mark carried a laptop, GPS tracker, three cameras and a voice recorder to help him document his journey.
He sent us text messages and phoned from the road and whenever he passed through civilisation, he popped into internet caf茅s to email pictures and videos.
Hills, Headwinds and Nae Signal!
Mark Beaumont, Monday, 12 November 2007.
Mark's finding that travelling along the south coast of Australia much harder than he thought.
Beset with almost constant head winds and unexpected hills, he has also been frustrated by very limited phone reception, which means we're just going to have to wing it with the interviews this week. Rest assured, as soon as we make contact, you'll be the first to know.
And all this in 36 degree heat! Good luck Monty!

I've been watching Mark's pogress with great interest. My son's friend is currently cycling his way to Taiwan. Mark, this is magnificent. Wish I were young enough and brave enough to tackle such a challenge. I shall manage 4K this year but 18K in 6/7 months with a commitment to sustain daily quotas whilst living out of a rucksack makes your achievement even more special.posted by Ian Moore from Reading Berkshire
Hello Mark, I've just caught up with your progress/phone -in and I am always impressed by your positive approach in all things you experience. It puts my 3-day sponsored bike ride to Paris into perspective. Good luck with the next and final 3rd of your travels. Hope the cream does it's job. Mark, you're the man! I watched with total amazement wishing I had th guts to do it, it looks totally amazing and such a challenge. My first cycle was the Birmingham to Oxford bike in the wind and pouring rain and I absolutely loved it, I can't imagine how i'd be feeling at the end of 18K! My next new challenge is Lands End to John O'Groats next year. You are an inspiration to us all!!posted by Becky Pykett from Oxford
