Eric Smith - the diary

You wake up with Eric Smith every morning, but there's much more to him than being the liveliest alarm clock around. Eric's diary keeps you up to date with what he does after 9am.

Monday, 22 June

I haven't had a school dinner for quite a while now, although I've done several features on the subject for the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Shropshire breakfast show over the past few years.Ìý

Well this all changed last week when I went to the Dothill Primary School to take a look at their new restaurant facility – and the new school dinner menu!

eric's school dinners

Enjoying school dinner

It all started when the head at Dothill, Debbie Cawte, rang the breakfast show to tell me how proud she was of the new dining arrangements – and during the conversation I sort of invited myself along to have a look.

Remember this is a primary school and there are around 480 kids attending, so it's a big operation. But I must say it works like clockwork.Ìý The youngsters were very well behaved and I was looked after by Emily Hodson.

ÌýEmily's in her last year at Dothill and will soon be leaving to go to the Charlton School.ÌýÌý She was the perfect host, very chatty and extremely knowledgeable about the school and how things work.

Thank you Emily (and everybody else at Dothill) for a lovely lunch.

Eric's hanging basket

Can the basket survive Eric's holiday?

I've got a week's holiday coming up, and to be perfectly honest we've been really undecided what to do.

Should we stay at home and get things done (you know what it's like, there's always something to do) or should we take the opportunity to go away on our own and leave the troubles of the world behind us?

Well we've decided on the latter.
We're going away on our own!

I've only got one niggling worry…… I do hope the lads remember to water the hanging basket and the pots while we're away!

I'll let you know …….
