Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka shakes a leg.

Ran Ne Bana Di Jodi

'Very infectious! Gets you in the dancing mood', ´óÏó´«Ã½ Shropshire Bollywood.

Director: Aditya Chopra
Cast:Ìý Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Vinay Pathak
Information:
Running time: 164mins
Release date: 12 December 2008 Yash Raj Films
Rating: 4/5

Working middle class simpleton, Surinder Sahni (Shah Rukh) returns home to Amritsar with reluctant bride, Taani (Anushka Sharma ).

Flashback reveals a flamboyant, vivacious Taani getting ready to wed the man she loves most but fate plays a cruel tick. She ends up marrying Surinder, a total introvert in character.

Present day shows a suppressed Taani grieving silently for her bereaved lover whilst a rather docile Surinder finds it difficult to reveal his innermost feelings towards his new bride.

Deeply in love with Taani, Surinder hopes that she will gradually love him one day but that time never comes.

So Surinder decides to go for a makeover with the help of hairdresser, best friend, Bobby (Vinay) to become Raj, a cool, fashionable guy.

Raj ends up becoming Taani’s partner in a dance competition. He makes her laugh and relive life to the fullest without realising Raj is none other than Surinder.

Soon a desperate Surinder realises that he is being drawn away from his wife when Taani’s affections grows towards happy-go-lucky Raj.

Taking matters in his own hands, Surinder reveals his true shelf without thinking of the consequences in this emotional and entertaining love story.

Director/ writer, Aditya Chopra comes up with a refreshing love story consisting of fine dialogues. Your heart goes out to Surinder struggling in a dual role to please his wife, all because he loves her deeply.

The Raj -Taani relationship during the dance rehearsals during post intermission is too lengthy loosing viewers’ concentration. Better editing by Chopra would have made a more attention-grabbing narration. But this can be overlooked by a flawless climax and well executed scenes in between.

One such moment sees Taani dreaming of a song sequence featuring Shah Rukh Khan with Bollywood’s finest heroines.

A very enjoyable watch for us all especially seeing the likes of Kajol, Preity Zinta, Rani Murkejee although my personal favourite is Bipasha Basu who looks stunning in her 70s outfit!

Shah Rukh Khan makes you laugh and cry as the nerdy-looking, clumsy, bespectacled Surinder and the all hip and happening Raj. A true professional in his in his own right, Khan breezes through his dialogues full during the emotional and comic scenes.

Whilst newcomer Anushka gives an enjoyable performance it is Vinay Pathak who brings in the laughs with his comical character as Bobby the hairdresser.

On the whole, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is worth a watch for Shah Rukh Khan’s presence and some comical and emotional scenes making you laugh and cry respectively. Go watch it - you won't be disappointed!

ayesha mangera
a little light relief( after the horror in Mumbai) with SRK believable as the nerd, and Raj his alter ego. A huge contrast to the hidden 'India' of Slumdog millionaire. Both unique and watchable.
