Tony's
(Bobby Deol) parents died whilst he was very young. He was cared
for by his uncle and aunt.
But
they abandoned the poor chap whilst travelling in a train.
So
Tony grows up with a group of street kids who all share the passion
for the Bollywood screen hero, Amitabh Bachchan in the film Deewar.
Just
like the film, Tony and his young mates grow up on the wrong side
of law by carrying out petty thefts.
So
after earning a handsome packet in a bout where he had to risk his
life, Tony treats himself to a musical show currently in town.
But
he is soon woken up from his slumber by Sapna (Priyanka Chopra)
the singer on stage. It's a dream come true for Tony.
He
falls in love with Sapna and starts chasing his far fetched dream.
Tony is a roadside hoodlum while Sapna is a rising star in show
business. She comes from a respectable family.
Sapna
tries to make him aware that they are worlds apart. So such a union
would be futile.
She
even takes him to meet Mr Bhatia her fiancee. This shatters Tony
but is not ready to give up.
Thinking
that he needs to match the money status in order to ask for Sapna's
hand, Tony takes on the offer through his regular underworld agent.
His
mission is to get a certain government officer into signing some
papers. Tony doesn't ask any questions.
He
goes straight to Dr. Khurana's office, the Drug and Food Administrator
and threatens to kill his family members, if he didn't sign on the
dotted line.
But
little did he know that Dr. Khurana is Sapna's father, and his signature
would allow the corrupt businessman Raj Mallya to release his dangerous
drugs into the market.
The
drugs that would eventually kill hundreds of innocent children and
get Dr. Khurana convicted for life.
It's
then that Tony realizes that he has ruined his own dream. It's because
of him that Sapna's father is in jail which in turn had led to her
mother's suicide.
He
now wants to undo whatever he had done unknowingly. Shattered and
traumatized, Sapna becomes emotionally dependent on Tony.
What
follows next is a series of action packed events as Tony uncovers
the people behind the drug scam. He must now fight for his love
and life.
But
what has fate in store for him eventually? Does his kismat
lend him a helping hand?
The
story of Kismat (meaning fate) is filled with Bollywood clich茅s
we've all seen before. The flick offers nothing new for audiences
to chew on. Every little twist and turn is predictable.
Having
said this, few scenes will entertain your Bollywood palette. These
include sequences involving Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra and also
some hair rising stunts.
We
see Bobby Deol after almost a year's break. He makes the same impact
as his last release Humraaz in which he played the character
of an angry young man.
Priyanka
Chopra gets plenty of scope to exhibit her acting talents and she
does this with great ease. Personally I prefer her character in
the recently released Plan.
On
the whole, Kismat has very little to offer in terms of content.
Its pure entertainment Bollywood style. What Kismat (meaning
fate!) awaits this film at the UK box office? Your guess is good
as mine.
