Doncaster website set up for credit crunch advice

A Doncaster housing organisation has responded to the credit crunch by launching a new website to give help and advice to council tenants on money matters.

St Leger Homes of Doncaster has just launched slhdmoneywise.co.uk, which provides information and help in a range of financial areas including benefits, how to budget, how to choose the cheapest energy supplier and what to do when money problems occur.

Doncaster Racecourse hotel postponed

A 拢13-million hotel and apartment development at Doncaster Racecourse has been postponed because of the credit crunch. Building work should have started this summer on a 120 bedroom four star hotel and 34 apartments at the site on Bawtry Road and Leger Way.

But the developers Arena Leisure say the work won't now start until the current finacial climate improves. Paul Shrimpton from the company says it's only a temporary setback:

"Obviously we're very disappointed. A lot of work has gone into this project and we feel it's now in very good shape from both a commercial and a design perspective. We've brought it to a stage where it's ready to go as soon as the timing is right."

On the buses

According to transport operator Stagecoach, rising fuel costs and concern for the environment have led to an extra million bus journeys being made by people in Sheffield.

Stagecoach also says new vehicles and improved reliability helped see the 14 percent growth - an increase which was over the 12 months up to April 2008.
