  1. That's all for tonight!published at 19:03 British Summer Time 17 May

    #bbccricket

Thanks for joining us - it's been an intriguing day of county cricket, with the ball dominating early on and then giving way to the bat in some, but not all matches.

There were 17 wickets at The Oval and another 17 at Hove, but also runs aplenty elsewhere with two different players making centuries for Somerset, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

What will tomorrow bring? Join us again from 10:45 BST to find out...

  2. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 176-7

Sean Hunt sends down the final over of the day, but there's no addition to the 17 wickets which have already fallen.

Jordan Thompson turns one for a single on the off side before Matt Revis blocks out the remainder of the over and that's stumps.

Yorkshire will look to build on a lead of 26 in the morning.

  3. One over left at Hovepublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 175-7

Solid defence by Matt Revis as he sees off a maiden from Tom Haines to try and shepherd Yorkshire to the close with this small, but precious lead.

It's all about survival for Revis - who is yet to score from 25 deliveries - and Jordan Thompson at this stage, with the visitors ahead by 25.

  4. 'Lyon might have quite a big part to play tomorrow'published at 18:48 British Summer Time 17 May

Lancashire 350-9 v Durham - close, day one

    Scott Read
    ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Lancashire

Saqib Mahmood and Nathan Lyon will both have a role to play tomorrow with the ball.

Lyon in particular might have quite a big part to play.

  5. Close of play at Blackpoolpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 350-9 v Durham

Nathan Lyon plays out a maiden from Callum Parkinson to end the day - although his innings might have ended when he edged one to second slip.

Matthew Potts couldn't cling on to a sharp chance, so Lyon and Saqib Mahmood will get to resume in the morning, on five and 40 respectively.

Lancashire will feel satisfied to have reached 350 after being put in, built around Keaton Jennings' knock of 115.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Tattersall c Coles b Hunt 26published at 18:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 167-7

    Yorkshire are seven down!

Sean Hunt bowls a beautiful line and Jonny Tattersall can only prod the Sussex seamer to third slip.

Four overs to go tonight... can Sussex nip out another?

  7. 'Well played Barnard and Burgess'published at 18:42 British Summer Time 17 May

Essex v Warwickshire 308-6 - close, day one

    Glenn Speller
    ´óÏó´«Ã½ Essex sport

Well played Ed Barnard and Michael Burgess.

At 104-6 it looked like a matter of when not if Essex would be batting today but these two batters have put their side in a strong position.

Barnard was dropped behind the wicket early in his innings but having survived just needed someone to stay with him and he found a willing ally in Burgess who at times outscored his partner.

Having performed so well up to lunch the Essex attack looked blunt for much of the afternoon and evening with even the new ball failing to threaten Barnard and Burgess who will return tomorrow morning having rescued their side from potential disaster.

  8. Close of play at the Ovalpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 112-7

As suspected - that is indeed the close of play.

An extraordinary day's cricket here in south London.

Worcestershire won the toss, choosing to bowl first and the team would've been delighted to reduce the hosts to 15-4 in the first half hour of play in seaming and swinging conditions.

But Surrey were rescued with a partnership of 148 between Dan Lawrence (84) and Ollie Pope - who made 63.

That's by far the biggest stand in the game. The second highest to date is 58 between Matthew Waite and Pears captain Brett D'Oliveira.

Dan Worrall bowled a superb spell and has 3-17 while Kemar Roach took two wickets in one over to dislodge Matthew Waite and Nathan Smith.

D'Oliveira survived on 22 and will need to marshal the tail as best he can tomorrow morning.

A lead of 100 looks daunting indeed in this game.

  9. Close of play at Derbyshirepublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 17 May

    Derbyshire v Northants 297-5

Northants will probably feel happier with their day's work.

Half-centuries for Ricardo Vasconcelos, George Bartlett and Rob Keogh (75 not out) have put them in a good position in this Division Two encounter.

  10. Stumps in Cardiff & Leicesterpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 17 May

    Division Two update

Gloucestershire have closed on 385-2 against Leicestershire following that opening stand of 316 between Cameron Bancroft (160) and Ben Charlesworth (126).

The 55 extras conceded by the Foxes haven't helped their cause.

Middlesex have dominated day one at Glamorgan. After bowling the hosts out for 183, they closed on 62-0.

  11. Third batting point for Lancashirepublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 350-9 v Durham

Nathan Lyon scrambles a single off Paul Coughlin and that's enough to complete his role with the bat on this occasion - namely, lifting the Lancashire total above 350.

The Australian has five, with Saqib Mahmood at the other end on a belligerent 40 not out.

Three overs scheduled for tonight, so if the final Lancashire wicket goes down in that time, Durham will begin their reply tomorrow.

  12. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 212-9 v Hants

On the face of it, a good day for Hampshire - but, having reduced Nottinghamshire to 50-6 this morning, they probably won't be viewing it that way.

Lyndon James has led the counter-attack with an unbeaten 92, receiving sterling support from Calvin Harrison, Olly Stone and latterly Dillon Pennington.

However, Pennington fell to the final ball of the day - lbw to Kyle Abbott for 14.

Meanwhile, Hampshire's Mohammad Abbas, with figures of 4-36, will certainly have his eye on completing an early five-for in the morning.

  13. Bad light stops play at the Ovalpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 112-7

The umpires have taken the players off the field.

That might be it for the day.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Root lbw b Haines 67published at 18:28 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 159-6

HUGE wicket late in the day for Sussex.

Medium-pacer Tom Haines gets one to nip back in to Joe Root and it strikes him in front of the stumps on the back foot.

Up goes the finger. It'll be no third century in a row for the England man.

  15. Postpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 112-7

Hmm. The umpires are having a chat in the middle and the light meters are on display...

  16. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 308-6

It started as Essex's day - but this is the kind of scenario Warwickshire would have been hoping for when they won the toss and decided to bat this morning.

Ed Barnard and Michael Burgess have led a superb fightback from 104-6 and the Bears duo go to stumps undefeated on 115 and 105 respectively.

Plenty for Essex to think about overnight - they need to find a way to part these two as soon as they can tomorrow.

  17. Postpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 112-7

Dan Worrall is bowling with three slips and Joe Leach pushes firmly to Jordan Clark at mid on, who dives, blocks the ball and lands awkwardly on to the turf.

Leach misses out on a leg side ball and that's a maiden over.

    Seven left in the day.

  18. Yorkshire into the leadpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 155-5

How big a first-innings lead can Yorkshire get at Hove?

Joe Root is up to 67, with Jonny Tattersall providing good support.

Eight overs to go on the south coast.

  19. wicket

WICKET Smith LBW b Roach 0published at 18:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 111-7

Nathan Smith comes and goes in two balls.

He's half forward, shouldering arms to Kemar Roach - critically without offering a shot.

He's hit just above the knee roll on the line of off stump.

Joe Leach is in to try and stem the flow of wickets.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Williams lbw b Raine 9published at 18:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 335-9 v Durham

Ben Raine continues to shine, as it were - he's now taken his third wicket in this spell and the ninth of the Lancashire innings.

Will Williams fails to get forward sufficiently and is trapped in front - so last man Nathan Lyon comes to the crease.

Can he help to usher the Red Rose above 350?
