Paul Mullin has now scored 28 goals in all competitions for Wrexham this season.

Wrexham maintained their pursuit of leaders Stockport County with a comfortable 4-0 win over Altrincham.

Jordan Davies struck after two minutes to put Wrexham ahead in front of over 10,000, the highest of the season at the Racecourse.

Paul Mullin's brace and Ollie Palmer's exquisite finish completed the scoring before half-time.

Wrexham remain second in the National League, seven points behind County who secured a late win over Solihull.

Davies gave Wrexham the perfect start, pouncing from close range after the Altrincham defence failed to deal with Ben Tozer's long throw into the penalty area.

James Jones should have doubled the lead with his attempted lob of Tony Thompson, but the Altrincham keeper denied the effort.

Thompson had to be at full stretch to push away Mullin's low effort from 25 yards with Wrexham in control.

Mullin was not to be denied for too long, heading home Luke Young's corner and within five minutes, Wrexham's top scorer fired an unstoppable effort from Jones' pass to make it 3-0.

Home fans had barely finished celebrating Mullin's second when Reece Hall-Johnson's pass picked out Palmer, whose first time finish left Thompson with no chance.

Wrexham were playing with confidence although Christian Dibble was called into action to deny substitute Josh Hancock.

The second half did not reach the same levels as the opening 45 minutes although Wrexham searched for a fifth.

Tozer headed over the bar, while Dibble saved from Dan Mooney and also denied Ryan Colclough but the hosts' first half efforts ensured a vital win and extend their unbeaten run to 15 games.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:

"I'm really pleased with the result. It keeps us heading in the right way.

"We've got threats going forward and we've shown that today. We were clinical when we got the chances.

"On Friday we played well against Solihull but lacked that clinical edge to our game.

"That was the difference today, when we got the chances we were ruthless."
