Eastleigh 0-2 Notts County

  • Published

Notts County returned to the top of the National League as they inflicted a first home league defeat of the season on Eastleigh.

Second-half goals from Adam Chicksen and Ruben Rodrigues gave the Magpies a 2-0 win which took them a point clear of Wrexham who were held to a goalless draw at Wealdstone.

Notts pinned the hosts back for much of the first half and went closest when Macauley Langstaff sent a shot narrowly over the angle of post and crossbar.

Tristan Abrahams flashed an effort just wide and Aaron Martin could only poke a shot straight at goalkeeper Sam Slocombe as Eastleigh threatened after the break

But the Magpies hit the front 10 minutes into the second half when Tobi Adebayo-Rowling crossed to the back post where Chicksen headed in.

A last-ditch challenge prevented Cedwyn Scott from doubling the lead, but Rodrigues did grab a second with 16 minutes left when his shot found the bottom corner after some neat interplay.

Home keeper Joe McDonnell did well to push Geraldo Bajrami's shot wide, and Adebayo-Rowling's shot rattled the post late on as Notts bounced back from successive draws.
