Germany have won three golds in the history of the men's hockey event

Germany will face the Netherlands in the final of the Olympic men's hockey competition after they came through their semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Netherlands, the world's number one side, scored in each quarter as they cruised to a 4-0 victory against Spain.

Germany faced a sterner test against India, emerging 3-2 winners against the side they beat in the bronze-medal match in Tokyo three years ago.

Marco Miltkau scored the winner for Germany six minutes from time after Sukhjeet Singh levelled the tie shortly after half-time.

The medal matches will take place on Thursday at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium.

Great Britain's men ended the group stage with two wins, two draws and one defeat

Great Britain's men set up an Olympic quarter-final with India on Sunday despite ending the group stage with a narrow 2-1 defeat by Germany.

Christopher Ruhr gave Germany a 2-0 lead in the second quarter after finding the net through a reverse-stick strike and a penalty flick.

Gareth Furlong's ripping drag-flick pulled a goal back for GB in the fourth quarter before Sam Ward had a strike ruled out in the final minutes with the ball not leaving the D following a short corner.

Germany held on and will face Argentina in their quarter-final on Sunday.

GB also had a goal ruled out in the first quarter when Will Calnan's shot deflected off the forward's foot before hitting the backboard.

Great Britain's women's hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat by three-time Olympic champions Australia at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium.

It is a second successive defeat for Britain, after Sunday's loss to Spain, and depending on other results they might have to beat United States on Wednesday to progress.

Australia produced a dominant second quarter performance, scoring twice in less than two minutes before adding two more goals in the last period.

GB were also reduced to ten players when Tessa Howard was shown a yellow card for a reckless challenge in which she appeared to also injure her nose.

The Hockeyroos have now secured back-to-back wins in Group B.
