Cardiff Devils threw away a two-goal lead late on before losing at home to Guildford Flames in a shootout.
It was the second time in five days these teams had gone beyond overtime and this time it was the Flames turn to come from behind to win.
Devils lead 5-3 deep into the third period before Samuel Talbot and Brett Ferguson both scored in the space of four minutes late on.
Steve McParland then settled a bruising contest in the shootout.
The Flames only led for two minutes of the this game at Vindico Arena but snatched the win.
Victory sees the Flames close the gap on third-placed Belfast Giants to five points while Cardiff Devils' league title hopes now appear over.
It looked a different story when Ryan Barrow twice put Devils ahead, in the first and second periods, but both goals were cancelled out by Matt Alvaro.
Jordan Klimek put the visitors ahead for the first time on 29 minutes but Cole Stanford assisted for a third time as Brandon Alderson netted for Devils.
The hosts went ahead 4-3 seconds before the end of the second period through Joey Martin, who was immediately penalised for fighting, along with Alvaro, in the celebrations.
Jamie Arniel opened a two-goal lead but Flames struck twice late.
Devils frustration boiled over when Evan Mosey was handed a 10-minute penalty for abusing the officials before Flames edged a tense shootout.
