Stuart Broad got Marnus Labuschagne out twice for no runs in five balls in this match.

England bowler Stuart Broad, speaking to Sky Sports: "I wanted one more tonight really because it was moving a nice amount.

"Those two scrapped really well at the end I thought. It's a dry pitch but if you just bash away, bash away and then one might do something.

"I didn't go into the spell feeling like we desperately needed wickets. We all know with the new ball it is almost the best time to bat because you can actually hit it.

"Once the ball gets a bit older it's harder, especially off the spin, you can't play the big shots straight.

"Coming into that I just thought if I whack the pitch as hard as I can, get a bit of movement and create a bit of theatre...

"That's the thing with Ashes cricket, if you can get the crowd going and create that theatre you can make it feel like something is happening even when it's not.

"Any day that you've got Smith, Marnus and Warner back in the hut, you're happy."

England seamer Stuart Broad told TMS: "I thought Australia played brilliantly for the first hour. Ben Stokes said we needed to lift it in the field and we did. Any time you have David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith back in the pavilion you are happy but it will be a thrilling day tomorrow.

"Overall, the ball hasn't really swung a huge amount. I just got wide on the crease and Smith actually nicked the inswinger. I was delighted to get him and Labuschagne because they average in the fifties, so when you are defending a gettable total it's huge.

"You saw when Australia were in the field the other day that with a little bit of cloud and humidity around it which can change conditions and make batting tricky. If you ask me what I'd like to see first thing when I open the curtains? Some clouds around and no rain."

The question I've got and I'd love to ask Joe Root this. At what time did he think he was going to play that reverse ramp?

It was extraordinary. It just showed Australia that, if they didn't believe it, England are going to throw the first punch.

This game has been about opportunities and England have let a lot of opportunities go to kill this game. Four chances went down in the first innings, then they got the runs second innings but left plenty out there.

Not one of them went on to get the score that kills it. There will be a lot of regrets if they don't win this game.

Australia opener David Warner, speaking to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Test Match Special: "I think it's quite even. Hopefully the weather doesn't hang around too long tomorrow and the fans get to see some entertaining cricket."

On England's quick start: "As a fielder, it looks a bit nerve-wracking, but the bowlers held their nerve and hits their lengths. Their batters are going to make some errors at times and I think our bowlers did a fantastic job today."

On Cummins' yorker to bowl Pope: "That was incredible. I've seen Paty do that a couple of times, not yorkers but good length, and he's got that knack. It was great execution."

I was confident initially of Australia chasing 281 but I really do think it is 50-50 now.

A partnership here, if Scott Boland can get some more overs into the big three quicks then it is slight advantage Australia.

But if Australia lose Khawaja or Boland in the first 15 minutes, I think England will think they're in with a real shot.

Stuart Broad has shown why he was picked for this game. He would have been first on my list to play this game because of the occasion and the moment.

He is so good, and he's done it so many times, at grabbing the initiative. Those two wickets were absolutely vital when the game was drifting.

He delivers the goods time and time again. I don't know how he does it.

Usman Khawaja should be in the shed. That's a huge blow.

For Jimmy Anderson as well. He got one wicket in the first innings, we know how great a bowler he is but he'd have liked that boost at the start of the second innings.

It's a really big last day because whoever loses, there are going to be so many questions. If Australia lose, the questions of Pat Cummins' tactics will come from all angles.

If they win, he'll say he got it spot on and the questions will be to Ben Stokes.

This England side is about entertainment. I think they'll be excited about tomorrow.

Australia need 170-odd, England need seven wickets. The crowd are going to be electric.

If they had played the way Alastair and I are used to playing, we wouldn't have got to this last day with such excitement.

• Australia are chasing 281 to win this match, eerily close to the 282 they eventually fell short of chasing at the same venue in 2005
• Between them, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have scored 35 runs in this match, the third lowest aggregate total that the pair have put on in a match in which both have played
• Usman Khawaja will be hoping to follow up his first innings hundred with another ton. Should he reach three figures, it'll be the tenth time in an Ashes Test that a batter has scored a century in both innings. Khawaja would be the first to achieve the feat twice, having scored twin tons in Sydney in January 2022
• Stuart Broad needs two more wickets to reach 50 Test wickets at Edgbaston

We've really enjoyed watching England play back in Australia. If you speak to anyone who watches Test cricket, people are being entertained by the way England are going about it.

The shot first ball of the day was crackers. It completely took me by surprise.

Then I went into psychology of what Joe Root was trying to send around the ground because it was a nervous fourth day.

It showed everybody that they are here to play the Bazball way.

With the way this match is poised you wouldn't bet against a finish as tense as 2005 tomorrow, Boris.
