West Ham boss David Moyes speaking to ´óÏó´«Ã½ MOTD: "I think you are always trying to improve the squad but that wasn’t the reason we lost tonight. We have to analyse that.

"We had a good pre-season, we were feeling good after finishing the season well so we were disappointed with tonight.

"We need to get better with the players we have and they can be better, undoubtedly."

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes tells Sky Sports: "Didn't enjoy the performance, didn't enjoy the game. Those are my thoughts.

"We did not show enough quality and I don;t think it was officiated well but that is not the reason we lost.

How far form last season? "Miles."

Newcastle made it difficult for us but I would like to have seen more from us.

"Some of the decisions we feel aggrieved by but we will say that after every game, that is just the way I felt.

"We have to look at the next game an concentrate on trying to play better than tonight. We can play much better than we showed tonight.

"If we can get something in, ti will help. As I said, the group who played tonight performed well only six weeks ago and we hoped to get another performance out of them but it was not meant to be."

West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice tells Sky Sports: "I don’t think we could have played any worse to be honest. We were poor as a team and individually.

"There is no time to play poor in the Premier League. We had a dip last year and found ourselves in the deep end and it was not enjoyable.

"Things did not go our way, slack touches, not really getting in behind enough, not creating chances.

"There are a couple of things you can put it down to. We need to turn up in these types of games. We need to be collectively better.

"Grady Diangana went 10 days ago. He is a big miss for us. But none of that was in our minds the dust has settled."

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce tells Sky Sports: "I wouldn't say best week but when you come away from the Premier League and win 2-0 with two new signings scoring, it helps the cause. There was not much in it and we have a striker who scored typical striker's goal. Callum Wilson enjoys playing against West Ham and it was good to see them two get off the mark. We were worthy winners.

"We have been missing the goals, Callum will give us something different and makes the squad better. He can only help the situation.

"We have made progress, it is a long season and cannot get carried away but the last week has been a positive week for everybody, the impact the signings have made, the supporters in particular will like the look of them,

"That is certainly the best I have seen of Andy Carroll since the year he has been back. He has scored a coupe goals in pre-season and when he plays like that and he stays well, we know what sort of competitor he is."

Newcastle United

Newcastle's Jeff Hendrick speaking to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport: "It was different for me after four good years at Burnley. From day one the lads have made me feel welcome and I was just raring to get going.

"You see in training the squad that is here. The strikers can all score and all bring different qualities to the team. We had to dig deep and work hard for it.

"At half time both teams had had chances. We kept going and thankfully put our chances away."

Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson tells Sky Sports: "I seemed to get off to a good start on my debut and it was a great team performance. We were solid at the back and that gave us the platform.

"I am quite a confident person anyway and my job is to score goals. I feel this is a great squad with great potential and I am trying to be the definitive piece in the puzzle, putting the ball in the net.

"I like this place, I like playing against West Ham. It is not a disrespectful thing but I keep scoring against them. It is about being consistent and building on this performance for the next game.

"We were well organised, the shape and the way we set up gave us that platform. The reason I joined here was great players in the squad and I could have had a hat-trick. As long as they keep coming, I'm happy.

"It is disappointing that my debut goal wasn't in front of the fans who would have travelled down."

Steve Bruce is loving it, heartily high fiving each Newcastle player as they make their way off the pitch.
