That finishes our coverage of Saturday's EFL action.

There was crucial Championship victories for Swansea, Watford, Barnsley and Wycombe, among others, and a penalty shootout in the Papa John's Trophy to round things off.

We'll be back on Sunday for this season's final of the competition, as Sunderland take on Tranmere at Wembley.

  2. Wycombe cling on with key winpublished at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2021

    Bottom six of the Championship

Wycombe Wanderers gave their bid to avoid an immediate return to League One a massive lift, with victory over Preston North End.

Rotherham's postponement means they cannot reduce arrears on the teams above them, though they do have several games in hand.

Birmingham are embroiled in the mess at the bottom end, as their poor run continues - just two wins in 12 for Aitor Karanka's side.

Sheffield Wednesday need a win against the leaders tomorrow lunchtime... Norwich look a monumental task.

Watford and Swansea keep up the pressure on Norwich, who play Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow afternoon.

Barnsley are the top-six's big winners though, as their victory over Bournemouth establishes a four-point gap between them and the chasing pack.

    Saturday's EFL action

After that cup final penalty drama, let's take a step back and summarise the best of the league action across the EFL this afternoon...

    Salford win Papa John's Trophy

Let me remind you that Salford will only be the holders for 24 hours as this was the delayed 2019-20 final of the competition.

On Sunday Sunderland will play Tranmere back at Wembley in the 2020-21 final.

    Does that all make sense?!

    Salford win Papa John's Trophy

That's Salford's first trophy as an EFL club, with co-owners Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs watching on at Wembley.

They deserve it on the whole - they dominated much of the final and despite tiring in extra time they held their nerve in the shootout.

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett was already under pressure and losing to a side a league below won't have helped his cause.
