  2. 'Gap between top teams and rest getting smaller'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Steph Houghton
Manchester City defender on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

It was a professional performance from the USA against Vietnam.

A lot of players hadn't played in a World Cup before, Sophia Smith being one of them, but they just always manage to get the job done.

We all probably expected more goals from them. But we have seen that the gap is definitely getting smaller between the big teams and the rest.

  3. 'Denmark will have confidence thanks to late winner'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    FT: Denmark 1-0 China

    Ellen White
Former England striker on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

Denmark will be looking at England and thinking that they were not as solid defensively or sharp as they can be.

Based on their second half performance, Denmark should have Bruun as the nine and Harder in the ten behind, offering more creativity in the middle and making things happen.

They will have plenty of confidence going into the England game after that late goal too.

A lot of homework needs to be done because I think they will pose a real threat to England.

  4. 'China a stronger side than people think'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    FT: Denmark 1-0 China

    Jonas Eidevall
    Arsenal manager on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One

China came back from defeat many times in their Asia Cup campaign and you could see they really did believe they could get back into it all the way until the end.

So we should give credit to Denmark for beating a China side which is much stronger than most people think. They lacked quality in the final third but they were very hard to break down.

England and Haiti will have to do some work to try to get around that defensive unit.

    FT: Denmark 1-0 China

It came late on and this was the only goal of the match, scored by substitute Amalie Vangsgaard.

  6. 'Great play from Vangsgaard and Sevecke'published at 15:02 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    FT: Denmark 1-0 China

    Jonas Eidevall
    Arsenal manager on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One

It's a great header from Vangsgaard. She got great power on to it which isn't easy from that distance.

And Sevecke did well to hold the line and make it difficult for the goalkeeper. Otherwise it would have been likely that the keeper would have made the save.

  7. 'China did everything but it wasn't enough'published at 15:01 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    FT: Denmark 1-0 China

    Ellen White
Former England striker on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

Sixteen years since they were last at a World Cup. These full time scenes are incredible.

It feels so good as a player when you get that late winner, and Denmark are absolutely delighted.

China did everything they could, very compact and defended for their lives, but ultimately Denmark got the decisive goal in the end.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Denmark 1-0 China

Substitute Amalie Vangsgaard is the hero for Denmark. She came on in the 85th minute and scored in the 90th.

The Danes are delighted, but despair for China.

Next up for Denmark, England on Friday.

  9. 'Criminal positioning from China attackers'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Denmark 1-0 China

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

Two players offside there for China.

Absolutely criminal at this stage of the game. Trailing 1-0 and you give your opponent an easy out.

Potentially their best chance of getting a goal and it is spoiled.

  10. 'A very even group'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Denmark 1-0 China

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

None of the four teams [in the group] have looked overly convincing so far.

A very even group - from the rankings it shouldn't be - but that's what you get at the World Cup.

Different playing styles and a lot of unknowns. But a lot of missed chances so far.

    Denmark 1-0 China

There's an almighty scramble for China after Wang Shuang's free-kick from the right caused chaos at the back. The ball bounces off the upright, Denmark hack it clear off the line, but it all wouldn't have counted anyway as two Chinese players were offside straight from the Wang free-kick.

Six minutes of injury time, we've already had three minutes of it.

    Wonderful header from Vangsgaard.

I expected Xu to stop that, and the only reason why I can think that she didn't stop it is that Sevecke was interfering. But it has been given.

But you can just about make an argument for Denmark edging the game, and they have found the goal they need.

    Denmark 1-0 China

There had been a question whether Rikke Sevecke would be given offside when Vangsgaard's header went past her. Sevecke was near China's goalkeeper Xu Huan, but the officials decided she was not interfering with play, the goal stands and the Danes are delighted.

GOAL - Denmark 1-0 Chinapublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Amalie Vangsgaard (90 mins)

    Late drama!

A corner from the left from Pernille Harder finds substitute Amalie Vangsgaard 15 yards out and she heads it into the net after only being on the pitch for five minutes.

Will that give Denmark the three points?

    Denmark 0-0 China

A change apiece with Amalie Vangsgaard, another striker, coming on for Janni Thomsen for Denmark, while Gao Chen replaces Li Mengwen for China.

Time running out. Sarina Wiegman and the England players will be very happy if it stays like this.

Signe Bruun is trying to make an impact as a substitute and shoots at goal for Denmark, with her shot partially blocked, looping up and over the top.

I'd much rather the referees swayed towards more contact than blowing up for every little coming together.

It stays more true to the nature of football.

Pernille Harder, a three-time WSL title winner with Chelsea, has been largely kept quiet, but gets involved as Signe Bruun knocks on a ball, Harder takes a touch, beats an opponent but then sees her strike at goal charged down.
