iScream 360 trailer
iScream 360
In early 2016 a secret organisation sent social media experts into a recently uncovered paranormal archive to investigate supernatural artefacts and the legends associated with them. This is the footage we recovered. WARNING: contains flashing images.

The Inside Story

We asked Jim Cannon, Development Executive, to tell us more about iScream.

When we set out to film with 360 cameras we wanted to create something that had never been done before, so we set ourselves two goals. The first was to give viewers a more powerful reason to explore a 360 environment, other than simply enjoying the novelty of having the ultimate panoramic view. The second was to give them a reason to keep watching.

A paranormal experience felt like a great reason to explore a space in 360, after all how many times have we seen a ‘ghost hunt’ where the camera is pointing the wrong way when something moves, or picks up a noise but not the thing that made the noise? In 360 you can see EVERYTHING. The second part of the challenge was trickier. For this we needed engaging protagonists and a narrative story where anything might happen. This meant sending someone into the 360 space without a script, and that’s never been done like this before.

And so iScream 360 was born; the ultimate Scare and Share paranormal escape room played by a collection of brave YouTubers. They had no idea what was going to happen, and we had no idea how they would react. We wanted to scare them and we wanted to make viewers laugh and jump with them. It was shot over two days in Dock 10 studios in Manchester and edited together using specialist software and effects to create an immersive 360 viewing experience, so viewers feel like they’re in the room too. The end result is an exciting, nerve-shredding comedy horror experience.
