We caught up with Natures Weirdest series producer, Chris Howard

Nature鈥檚 Weirdest is a 大象传媒2 show, what's it doing on Taster?

It is an interactive version of a Nature's Weirdest Events story, in this case an Anaconda which gave birth to three live young even though she hadn鈥檛 seen a male in over 6 years. It turns out it was through a process called parthenogenesis - literally virgin birth - and this was the first time it had been recorded in this species of snake.

That is weird. So what are your hopes for the project?

The ambition is to try out a different way of storytelling on a new platform. I had seen the interactive technology used in action and thought it had some potential so I was intrigued. As a format, Nature's Weirdest Events lends itself well to this kind of thing - with twists and turns and lots of other reading, watching, learning to be done along the way, so I wanted to give it a go.

How did you make it?

We made it by taking an existing story that we were putting together for the main show on 大象传媒2 and mixing up the elements to make it work for this format.

Did Chris Packham get involved?

Yes, we had to shoot some bespoke links, and Chris Packham was interested in the idea so was happy to give it a go with us. So happy that he did it twice in fact; we didn鈥檛 get it all quite right first time.

Why did you make it?

It was made because I was fascinated by this new technology and how it would work alongside an existing TV production.

We need to be innovating and trying these things out, and Taster gave us a great opportunity to do that.
