We spoke to Producer, Lucy Bacon and Psychiatrist, Dr Farhana Mann about how they created 'Who would play you in a movie?'
Tell us about the pilot
Lucy Bacon: "To coincide with the launch of movie award season we’re giving you the chance to find out who would play you in the movie of your life.
Through a set of questions we’re finding out about all aspects of your personality – and once you’ve answered each question we’ll tell you which Hollywood A-Lister would take the lead role in your own biopic."
So how did you calculate the results?
Lucy Bacon: "Our personality questions are based on established research by University of Oregon professor Lewis R. Goldberg – and we worked with University College London psychiatrist Dr Farhana Mann to refine the test and personality profiles.
Film critic Rhianna Dhillion reviewed the personality profiles and matched these against Hollywood’s great and the good.
As an added bonus – and something you won’t find in your average online quiz – you can compare your scores to the rest of the country. Finding out where you fit in the grand scheme of things, when it comes to different aspects of your personality. We collated this data from over 1500 British people who completed a similar online quiz." You can find out more about this .
What’s the science behind the questionnaire…
Dr Mann: “We based this project on questions from the ‘International Personality Item Pool’ – and the widely cited ‘Big Five’ personality test. (Goldberg, L. R. (1992). The development of markers for the Big-Five factor structure. Psychological Assessment, 4, 26-42.)
The development/discovery of these aspects of personality goes back to original research in the 1940s by psychologists like Raymond Cattel, Tupes & Cristal and Costa & Mcrae. Over time, other researchers have rigorously analysed the responses of thousands of people who were asked questions about their personalities/ways of doing things/approaching situations. The researchers pooled together all the information gathered and analysed it for patterns or traits/characteristics that tended to ‘cluster’ together.
They found 5 main groups into which the data was consistently clustering together. And these groups were: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism or ‘OCEAN’. And that’s what we’ve used to create this questionnaire.
And one final – very important note - this questionnaire isn’t about diagnosing or labelling, it’s about finding out a little bit about yourself and having fun!”
