English KS2: The Wind in the Willows

Kenneth Grahame's classic tale of Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad abridged in 10 episodes and read by the late Bernard Cribbins. There is a with guidance, worksheets and follow-up activities, suitable for use at home and at school.

Mole leaves his spring cleaning to explore the world above. There he meets the Rat and the two set off for a leisurely row down river.

Episode 1. The River Bank

Toad takes Mole and Rat away in his new caravan鈥ut discovers he'd far rather drive a motor car.

Episode 2. The open road

Ratty has warned Mole to avoid the Wild Wood. But one day Mole goes into the Wood alone and quickly becomes lost and terrified as snow begins to fall.

Episode 3. The Wild Wood

Following Mole's adventure in the Wild Wood he and Ratty spend time with the reclusive Mr Badger in his underground home.

Episode 4. Mr Badger

Mole and Ratty are returning home from a winter walk when Mole senses his old home nearby.

Episode 5. Dolce domum

Rat, Mole and Badger try to reform Toad鈥ut Toad escapes and sets off on his extraordinary adventures.

6. Mr Toad

Toad escapes from prison and hitches a ride on a steam train鈥ut the police are after him.

7. Toad's adventures

More adventures for Toad as he continues to elude to the police by taking a lift on a river barge - still dressed as a washerwoman.

8. The further adventures of Toad

Toad finally returns to the River Bank鈥here he learns that Toad Hall is in the possession of the Wild Wooders. Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger plan their attack.

9. Like summer tempests came his tears

Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger arm themselves and set out to liberate Toad Hall鈥
