CoastYou are in: Tees > Coast > Hidden Hartlepool A beautiful view of the Headland Hidden HartlepoolBy Karen Slater There's more to Hartlepool's Headland than wind turbines and a sea view to die for, there's a hidden history that's about to be uncovered.
Hartlepool holds a lot of firsts, from the first soldier killed on British soil during the Great War, to being home to one of the world's first gas operated lighthouse. Hartlepool has a long proud history, and was originally two towns, the ancient town of 'Old Hartlepool', known locally as the Headland, and the more recent West Hartlepool. They joined in 1967 and formed what is now simply known as Hartlepool. This walk will delve deep into the history of the 'Old Hartlepool' to tell its many stories and well-known legends. last updated: 27/03/2008 at 16:03
