How did you become a Pan’s person?
ÌýRuth: There was a disagreement about how our current group the Beat Girls were going and three of us left and formed our own group called Tomorrow’s People. Then about a year later we split up and I had heard that the girls had formed Pan’s People. I was still friends with Flick so I walked from Paddington to Covent Garden and asked if they could give me a job. They weren’t sure for a time and I had an audition. And then they later contacted me and told me I was in.

So, dancing around in skimpy outfits, how did people react to that?
ÌýRuth: You have to remember that those clothes were pretty much the style of the time. We were only wearing what young people were wearing. I suppose some people were tut-tutting about it but that’s always happened over the years, and still happens now. I’m sure I got my fair share of tutting but in general my parents dealt with it very well.

Where on earth did the concepts come from?
ÌýRuth: That was mainly Flick’s doing. Sometimes it was down to circumstances. When the numbers were dropped we had to work very quickly, and the concepts were inspired by the music we were dancing to. The credit should go to Flick really.

They got weirder and weirder with Legs & Co, was Flick displaying any bizarre symptoms at the time?
ÌýRuth: I don’t think so. We weren’t like that at all. I think with the more experience Flick had as a cheorgrapher and the need to come up with something different every week led to those concepts.

Were there any songs or routines you didn’t like?
ÌýRuth: Many [laughs]. Some songs and concepts suited different people and some I couldn’t stand, but then that was the challenge as the song. But it all went hand in hand with the song. Like 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly', and 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree'. There was quite a lot of those. The music, the clothes and the dances all made some of it a bit... bleurgh!
