If you could go back in time and choose ANY song to dance to what would it be?
Ruth: Oh God you’ve got me there! There’s so many songs. I love dancing to The Temptations’ 'Ball Of Fire'. It’s a powerful song. Perhaps some Stevie Wonder. Aretha Franklin. I love Aretha. More of those soulful singers would have been great.

Do you still get fan mail? How does that feel?

Ruth: Yes we get some, it’s odd that we should still get people writing to us, and sometimes a little worrying but we’ve got used to it.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve received from a fan?
Ruth: We all have our superfans as we call them. Some of us have had flowers and cards and letters. We got a package from one fan, and erm... well it had some very odd things in it. Including a used handkerchief which I’m only hoping contained snot.

What’s your quintessential TOTP memory?

Ruth: I think just having such wonderful fun. Waiting to go on. The joy of being able to do what we were doing. That’s a tough one.

How do you think the other girls remember you?

Ruth: These questions are too hard [laughs]! For myself all the other girls would probably say that I was the nervous one and they used to ban me from the dressing room because I made everyone else nervous.

So honestly, did you ever wing it?

Ruth: Oh yes. Absolutely. I could show you dozens of examples of me forgetting the moves. One time I fell off the set. It was on the actual take and no one noticed in the vision mixing room. We had to re-do the take. I fell in amongst all the gunk and cables off of the set. That was my embarrassing moment.
