1998: Apartheid report released by Truth and Reconciliation Commission
South Africa鈥檚 Truth and Reconciliation Commission releases its report into abuses under apartheid on 29 October 1998.
The report accuses various leading figures across the political spectrum of human rights violations. These included former President PW Botha, Home Affairs minister Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Winnie Mandela, as well as the ruling African National Congress.
The Commission spent over two and a half years on the report and heard testimonies from more than 21,000 victims.
