1997: East German leader guilty of Berlin Wall deaths
Former East German leader, Egon Krenz, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison on 25 August 1997.
Krenz was convicted on four charges of incitement to manslaughter relating to people shot dead while escaping to West Berlin via the Berlin Wall.
He later appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, which upheld the conviction.
