1988: Jumbo jet crashes onto Lockerbie
A Pan Am jumbo jet crashed onto the town of Lockerbie on 21 December 1988.
All 259 people on board the jet and 11 people on the ground died in the crash near the Scottish borders.
The subsequent police investigation was the biggest ever mounted in Scotland and became a murder inquiry when evidence of a bomb was found.
