2004: Richard Todd on 'D-Day'
Richard Todd speaks about his involvement at Pegasus Bridge in Normandy, ahead what would become known as D-Day in June 1944.
He was born on 11 June 1919, in Dublin, Ireland.
After World War Two, he became a leading actor in both Britain and Hollywood, being nominated for a Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for his role in The Hasty Heart (1949).
Two of his most famous roles related back to WW2, as he portrayed Wing Commander Guy Gibson in The Dam Busters (1955) and then Major John Howard in The Longest Day (1962), where he played the commanding officer leading the mission to take Pegasus Bridge.
Interestingly, he was James Bond author Ian Fleming's first choice to portray the character, but a scheduling conflict was said to have taken him out of the running. He died on 3 December 2009.
