Miller uses Freudian analysis to get to the heart of the characters and explains his views on the theme of corruption - both of the person and of the 'rotten' state of Denmark - that runs through the play.
Polymath Jonathan Miller rose to prominence with the widely acclaimed revue 'Beyond the Fringe', which also starred Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Alan Bennett. He became well known for his innovative and sometimes controversial interpretations of Shakespeare and was made executive producer of the 大象传媒's 'Television Shakespeare' in 1980, where in typical style he cast 'Till Death Us Do Part' star Warren Mitchell as Shylock in 'The Merchant of Venice'.
