3D Documentary Explorer
The 3D Documentary Explorer is a radical new way of telling the story of The Virtual Revolution, using video clips from the first two episodes of the series.
Once you click to launch the Explorer, press pause or play to move between ‘Watch’ and ‘Explore’ modes. In 'Explore' mode, click the arrows to the right and left of the video to see pictures of web pages relevant to that clip. Click on the link above the web page to load it in your web browser.
The 3D Documentary Explorer is an experiment in interactive documentary storytelling. There's a video walkthrough below and a detailed guide underneath the video. We'd love to hear your comments about the Explorer on our blog. What do you think of the concept? Have you had any problems using it? How do you think we could improve the experience?

The 3D Documentary Explorer lets you use the web to find out more about the stories that we’ve been exploring for the ‘The Virtual Revolution’.
Click to launch the Explorer, and you will see the story space appear and fill with images representing the web pages that will be the starting points for your own journey.
Then the spine of the story loads - the video that tells our version of the story.
Now it’s up to you. There are 3 different modes.
In ‘Watch’ mode, you can watch the video full screen.
In ‘Explore’ mode, the video pauses and you can click the arrows to the right and left of the video to look through a series of images of web pages relevant to that video. Click on the link above an image, and that web page loads in a new tab or window in your browser. Close the tab or window, or navigate back to the 3D explorer, to continue where you left off.
Click on pause / play to move between ‘Watch’ and ‘Explore’ modes (you can also do this with the space bar).
In ‘View from above’ mode, you can see where you are in the documentary.
The story is divided into chapters, like a DVD. Skip through them with the dropdown chapter menu under the programme title, or click anywhere in the video timeline to jump through the video.
