In 1994 ´óÏó´«Ã½ Wales arts show The Slate went to Newport to check out the town's music scene.

With contributions from bands such as 60ft Dolls and Dub War and promoters such as Andy Barding and Simon Phillips, the video is a fascinating look at the time from a distance of 15 years.

The words of Phillips are perhaps most prescient, warning against the media calling it a 'scene' as such - and just a couple of years later his warning came true, as the bubble burst. But for a time in the mid-1990s, Newport was a truly exciting place to be a music fan.
