Perform under pressure

Mental strength is massive. You can walk down the range and see young players hitting balls, and they all look great, but it's how they perform on that golf course that really counts. You have to have serious patience and know how to manage yourself.

Honesty wins

Golf is one of the last few games where we play by the rules as individuals. We have referees and if we make a mistake we call it. It's a very honourable game.

Believe in your ability

A major highlight for me was my first win at Porthcawl against Greg Norman, Brian Barnes and Colin Mason. Although you can have a good amateur record, you never really know how you're going to stand until you're up against the professionals. It gave me the belief and the understanding that I could play and lit the light in my head to say "Yes! You can actually stand up against these guys and do it!" Have the self-belief that you can do it.
