Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford
ACTIVE
Started at: 11:03 GMT on Tue 24 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels remain high. In Preston Candover, the level has risen by 7cm in the last week. In Old Alresford, it has risen by 11cm. However, after a week of mostly dry weather, groundwater levels are currently relatively stable. In Preston Candover and Old Alresford, the level is peaking just below where we expect cellar flooding impacts to a small number of properties to occur. It is also very close to reducing the ability of septic tanks in Old Alresford to operate effectively. From today (24/12/2024) until Saturday (28/12/2024), very little rainfall is forecast. We expect groundwater levels in all villages to begin falling slowly within the next week. We continue to monitor the forecast. We advise residents to remain prepared for flooding impacts this winter. If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure that they can operate. This Flood Alert will be updated by 17:00 on Tuesday 31/12/2024.

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Flamstead
ACTIVE
Started at: 09:35 GMT on Tue 24 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the Autumn, and have risen to very high levels at our observation borehole at River Hill, close to Flamstead. Groundwater levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.
We expect levels to remain high over the coming months in response to the high Autumn rainfall. Low lying land and roads such as those in the Trowley Bottom area near Flamstead will therefore be at risk of flooding.
Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer. We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on Tuesday 31st December or as the situation changes.

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Kimpton and Lilley Bottom
ACTIVE
Started at: 09:35 GMT on Tue 24 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the Autumn, and have risen to high levels at our observation borehole at Lilley Bottom. This rise is from levels which were already high from the previous Winter.
Levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities in the Kimpton and Lilley Bottom area are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.
We expect levels to remain high over the coming months in response to the high Autumn rainfall. Low lying land and roads will therefore be at risk of flooding.
Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer. We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on Tuesday 31st December or as the situation changes.

Flood alert
Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Salisbury Plain area
ACTIVE
Started at: 09:14 GMT on Tue 24 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels have slowly started to recede having risen in response to recent rainfall. Levels are very reactive to further rainfall.
The forecast is for high pressure to build over the next 3-5 days with little rainfall predicted. This should allow groundwater to continue to fall.
Flooding of roads and fields is possible. Where groundwater is near the surface, intense rainfall will lead to surface water flooding.
Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
This message will be updated by 3 PM on 31/12/2024, or as the situation changes.

Areas affected: Lower Avon and tributaries
ACTIVE
Started at: 08:40 GMT on Tue 24 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
River levels remain high but are slowly falling on the Lower River Avon and its tributaries. High ground water will keep river levels high for at least the next 5 days.
Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Middle and Lower Hampshire Avon, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch.
The forecast is for more settled conditions to build over the next 3 days.
We will continue to monitor rainfall and river levels.
Please consider activating any property flood protection products and start acting on your flood plan if you have one. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Lambourn Valley catchment
ACTIVE
Started at: 11:44 GMT on Mon 23 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels have stabilised at our Longacre borehole in the Lambourn Valley as a result of recent settled weather. However, groundwater levels are above normal for this time of year and have reached a level where communities may be affected by groundwater flooding within the coming weeks.
We expect levels to remain sensitive to further sustained rainfall. Low-lying land, roads and basements will therefore to be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater flooding, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.
We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message next week, 30/12/2024 or as the situation changes.

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Great Shefford area
ACTIVE
Started at: 11:41 GMT on Mon 23 December
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels are broadly rising at our Northfield Farm borehole in the Great Shefford area. However, the rate of rise has slowed as a result of the current more settled period. Groundwater levels remain above normal for this time of year and are at a level where communities may be affected by groundwater flooding within the next week.
We expect levels to remain sensitive to further sustained rainfall. Low-lying land, roads and basements will therefore be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater flooding, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.
We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message in a week, 30/12/2024, or as the situation changes.
