My Moon Memories

Buzz Aldrin on the moon in 1969

Buzz Aldrin on the moon in 1969

Where were you when man first landed on the moon?

The 20th July 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11's successful moon landing trip.

Outlook would like to hear your memories.

Where were you on that day? Were you crowded round a tv set with the neighbours, listening on radio - or were you unaware of what was happening until you saw the newspapers?

Perhaps you are too young to remember the moon landings directly, but have stories from your parents or grandparents.

Maybe you're like Jean Francois Clervoy and were inspired to become an Astronaut yourself!

Whatever your story, get in touch with Matthew Bannister and the Outlook team and let us know. You may find your memories being used on the radio or the web.

Here's one to get you started:

I was traveling to Chicago from just outside of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, when we heard "The Eagle has landed" on the radio and that the landing would be televised that night. So we raced through Michigan, stopping only at an old-fashioned gas station, where two old men were leaning back on chairs propped against the building. While my brother gassed up and my cousin cleaned the windshield, I ran inside for snacks, stopping to say "Well, we're on the moon!" The two men looked at each other and then back at me, no doubt wondering what we were smoking.
