Eyes on Paris

JR's work in Paris and around the world

The artist known only as "JR" has wrapped the Ile Saint Louis, in the heart of Paris, in giant posters of pairs of eyes.

One pair of eyes belongs to Zippy Vugutsa, a 47 year old poor, single grandmother in Kenya. Another gaze is that of 55 year old Peng Phan who helps street children in Cambodia.

JR never gives his full name but has become internationally celebrated in the past four years.

Mostly uninvited, he pastes up giant prints of his photos, often in the midst of civil conflicts all over the world, from the Israeli-Palestinian border to the violent slums of Brazil and Kenya.

JR talked to Outlook from the noisy site of his new exhibition in Paris.
