The Whale Man

The Whale Man, Duncan Murrell, in his canoe

Nature photographer Duncan Murrell has amazed people around the world with his close-up images of humpbacked whales.

Duncan's fearless obsession with capturing the 30 tonne mammals on camera brought him just metres away from the whales in freezing Alaskan waters.

Even though his photographs were taken 25 years ago they have recently attracted a lot of new attention.

When Ritula Shah spoke to him on the line from the Philippines, where he now lives, Duncan told her how he is able to get so close to these gigantic creatures.
