It is almost one year since a huge earthquake ripped through Haiti, devastating the country and killing at least 230,000 people.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Mike Thomson was there to report on the immediate aftermath of the disaster and has recently been back to make a special series for Outlook.
While he was there, he met with people who are still trying to rebuild their lives in the face of enormous difficulties - a cholera epidemic, political unrest, and grinding poverty.
In the first of five reports, he focusses on the children of Haiti - 50,000 of whom are said to have been separated from their parents and to be living in institutions in the country.
Some people may find the stories the children tell harrowing and disturbing.
First broadcast on 5 January, 2011
