Sue likes to use the old fashioned way of using carding combs to tease the fleece and remove knots prior to spinning. They would have been used every day by the old spinners at the beginning of the cottage industry. This was when spinners would keep two sheep and use every part. Fleece for wool, hide for leather, meat for food and even the bones would be boiled for jelly. When she works she thinks of the original spinsters - single women who had more time to work the wool. This was all before the commercialisation and mills of the north.
