When Dave Richards grandmother was released from a German internment camp at the end of the Second World War, she was so taken with the sudden luxury of the cruise ship on which she was transported to Liverpool, that she took and kept a small box of matches belonging to the shipping line.
The box remains in the family, without a match from the box having been struck.
Biberach was where a large number of Guernsey residents were taken who were considered by the occupying German forces to be a risk, on account of their family connections to the UK.
The ship on which Dave's grandmother was returned to freedom was called the 'Drottingholm'.
