Ptolemy's Geographia or "Atlas", [Strasbourg edition] from 1520, with authentication notes and notes about possible use by Sir Francis Drake. It was found in a post second world war paper salvage drive in Plymouth by the City Librarian.
Had Sir Francis been a Captain in today's Royal Navy, he would use a Global Positioning System to navigate around the world. To do the same in the 1570's, the best tool available would have been to have a copy of Ptolemy's Geographia.
The atlas is owned by Plymouth Library Service and is housed in the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office.
