This "disarmament dollar/ruble" was given to me by the Soviet Peace Committee in 1989, when I met them as one of a British Quaker delegation. It is made of metal from a decommissioned missile, produced as evidence that Gorbachev's disarmament promises were being carried out; an accompanying piece of paper says it carries no risk to my health (i.e. is not radioactive)!
It is a reminder of the short time of Soviet "glasnost" (openness) before the USSR fell apart, when the Peace Committee members and journalists talked to our delegation with astonishing frankness about the internal unrest their country was facing, and their authorities' lack of peacebuilding skills in encountering this.
