I bought this book, 'The History of the Execrable Irish Rebellion', in Belfast and the man who sold it to me said it was about the atrocities of the Irish Rebellion of 1641 - its author wrote the book to counteract 'the Papish propaganda' of the time. Some of the details are extraordinaryly blood-curdling. What makes the book even more fascinating though is that it once belonged to Sir Simon R B Taylor (1740-1830), one of the wealthiest sugar plantation owners in Jamaica at the end of the eighteenth century. Taylor was also a friend of Admiral Nelson!
