This book tells some part of the history of emigration and travel to America. My father and his family grew up in circumstances of extreme poverty, 7 of them living in one room in Mount Florida, Glasgow. His 3 brothers all became engineers. Jimmy Foggo for Walt Disney studios, Thomas Foggo for New York State in Albany and George Foggo was first engineer for The Anchor Line. My dad John Foggo became a teacher. In 1928, aged 14 he sailed on the T.S. Transylvania(Anchor Line) with my Grandmother, Janet Foggo to visit his uncle Thomas Mackie who emigrated to Albany in 1907. My Uncle Thomas Foggo had joined him in 1923. The trip lasted from May to September 1928. It was an enormous event in my father's life that he never forgot. In 1928 they knew no-one else who had gone to America for a holiday.
Most went only to emigrate. They visited many places including New York, Albany, Toronto and Niagara. My dad went on to become a successful PE Teacher and Sports Coach in Glasgow.
