The Mini was built by the British Motor Corporation in Birmingham. It was designed by Alec Issigonis. It was the icon of the 1960s and was built because of the 1950's fuel crisis.
The British Motor Corporation asked Alec Issigonis to make a smaller car that didn't use much fuel. The Mini was built in 1959. Many celebrities had Minis including George Harrison whose Mini is pictured. Robbie Williams also has one as well as James Martin. Minis have been changed over and over again the first mini had no heating and sliding windows. In 2000 the production of the classic mini stopped and it was replaced by the BMW Mini.
